Job description

I work in the applied science field on a wide variety of projects relating to seismic hazards, geotechnology, and national security.

Why did you choose this program?

While working on a degree in Oceanography I took a Geology course that opened my mind to a new way of thinking about our planet. From there it only took a semester for me to change my major and focus to Geology. Humboldt Geology’s strong tectonic focus, with an emphasis on field-based observations, resonated with me and has helped focus my interests ever since.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

Humboldt’s Geology program provided me with extensive opportunities to get involved in research. The field work I learned during my degree has a propelled me through my further education and employment. Professors also encouraged individual undergraduate research but were always around to assist. The skillset and mindset to think about problems in multiple ways, and to bounce these ideas off of others has carried me through all of my post-graduation career.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

Field work, without a doubt, getting to see the awesome geology around Humboldt County after reading about it during classes.

Humboldt Geology is an exceptional program that is well known by field geologists. I consistently meet Humboldt Geology alumni while working, all of which have nothing but fond memories for their times at Humboldt.
